Terms of Service

Effective date: September 22, 2026

Operator: Alkarim Billawala, an individual based in Alberta, Canada.

Contact: support@studysuite.app

By using Study Suite (the app at studysuite.app, and any copy of it installed on your device), you agree to these terms.

The app

1. What Study Suite is. A study tool: spaced repetition, practice questions, timed exams and topic guides, driven by content packs. It's in beta: features may change, break or be removed.

2. Not medical advice. Study Suite content — including all default study packs and topic guides — is educational material for exam preparation. It is not medical advice and must not be used to diagnose, treat or make decisions about real patients. No clinician–patient relationship is created. Medical knowledge changes, and content may contain errors or be out of date. Check everything against your curriculum and authoritative sources.

3. The app, and who owns the study content. The app's code is © Alkarim Billawala, all rights reserved (see LICENSE.txt). You get a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app for your own study.

The default study packs are study aids derived from course materials. The underlying content belongs to its rights holders — for the default packs, the University of Toronto's Temerty Faculty of Medicine and its lecturers, and every other original rights holder whose material a pack was derived from. We claim no ownership of that material. Packs are provided free, for personal, non-commercial study only. They have no monetary value, and may not be sold, resold, traded or used commercially, by us or by you. You may not redistribute or scrape the app or its packs without written permission.

4. Your content. Packs you make from your own materials are yours to use, but the rights in the material you draw from stay with its owners. You're responsible for making sure your packs don't infringe anyone else's rights (for example, copying a copyrighted question bank wholesale), and the same rule applies: packs can't be sold.

5. Your data on your device. Without an account, all your progress lives in your browser. You are responsible for your own backups (Backup all). We have no copy and can't restore lost local data.

6. Acceptable use. Don't try to disrupt the service, probe or attack its infrastructure, share access codes outside the group they were given to, or use the app for anything unlawful.

7. As-is; limitation of liability. The app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim relating to the app is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. If you paid nothing, that amount is nothing. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that can't lawfully be excluded, or limits consumer rights you can't waive where you live.

8. Governing law. These terms are governed by the laws of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada, and the courts of Alberta have jurisdiction — except where your local consumer law gives you the right to bring a claim where you live.

Accounts and sync

9. Accounts. An account is optional. To create one you must be 18 or older (or the age of majority where you live), use an email address you can receive mail at, and keep your password and recovery code safe. One account per person. During early access, creating an account needs a valid access code; we may close accounts created with a code that was shared outside its group.

10. End-to-end encryption — your keys, your responsibility. Your synced data is encrypted on your device, and we can't decrypt it. If you lose both your password and your recovery code, your synced data can't be recovered by anyone, including us. The data on your devices and any backups you've exported are unaffected. Keep your recovery code somewhere safe.

11. Sync is free during the beta. If we ever introduce a paid plan, we'll announce it in the app at least 30 days before any charge applies. Your account stays either way, the app keeps working without sync, and you can delete your account at any time.

12. Deleting your account. Delete account in the account menu permanently erases your account and synced data from our live server, immediately. The Privacy Policy explains how long backups may still hold it before they expire.

13. Changes to the service, and ending it. We may change or discontinue features with reasonable notice. If sync is discontinued, we'll tell you in advance; your data stays on your devices, and Backup all exports it at any time. We may suspend accounts that break these terms.

14. Beta features. Beta features come with no availability promise. Sync is built so that an outage never stops the app: it keeps working on your device and catches up later. Availability is best effort.

15. Changes to these terms. We'll announce material changes in the app at least 30 days before they take effect. Continuing to use the app after that means you accept them. If you don't, stop using the service, and delete your account if you have one.
